Covid restrictions in Austria reflect those in the UK with a national Lockdown in place until Sunday 6th December.
Here’s our opinion
Covid cases in both Austria and the UK have plateaued and are starting to reduce – in the Tyrol by more than 1700 cases today and accelerating. We’re sure tiered restrictions will be introduced in both countries post Lockdown. Austria is aiming to test the entire population during the week after Lockdown is lifted and again a week later. All hotel and restaurant staff across the Tyrol are tested every week already. Vaccines are on the horizon – great news, there are now also positive discussions about reducing quarantine times in the UK and airport testing. Ideally numbers in Austria reduce sufficiently to open our Air Corridor completely. Resorts in the Tyrol are keen to open as soon as possible and we hope there may be opportunities to ski over the festive period. What we are pretty sure about is that there will be a ski season – we’re feeling pretty buoyed about prospects improving as we move through January to Half Term and Easter.
We’re always here to help – absolutely
We are always service led. We are happy to help all our Staffler guests with any Covid issues that might affect your stay with us. This may be enforced flight changes affecting arrival and departure times and days and the knock on effect this may have on any transfers, ski school booking, passes etc. We always have and will continue to help as much as we can with any enforced changes.
Judge us by our actions
Covid forced us to close for the last winter season on Sunday March 15th with a very full hotel. We helped and facilitated all guest departures back to the UK and around the world. Many guests were unable to join us for the last five weeks of our season, including Easter. We helped to organise the majority of these with re-arranged stays at the Staffler this winter. We helped and advised others with their insurance refund claims.
Our promise to you
We aim to offer as much flexibility as we can in terms of our Booking Conditions so you can secure the rooms and dates you want at the Staffler. For all bookings we are happy to change a reservation for an alternative stay this season – we are open up to and including the Easter holidays 2021 or for next winter. Changes will never be subject to any amendment fees but will be subject to availability and any room rate differential (up or down). We are also happy to accept these reservations up to 48 hours prior to a planned departure.
Single or multi-trip travel insurance with Covid and FCO ‘only essential travel’ cover
We’ve searched long and hard to find suitable travel insurance to help our guests through this difficult time. We have no interest in earning commission from any business generated. We simply want to help our loyal guests. Staysure travel insurance offers single and multi-trip cover for singles, couples, families and groups. Premiums importantly include general Covid cover while abroad and full cover for those countries on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office ‘all but essential travel’ list – now or in the future. Cover also includes up to 21 days winter sports cover and is Europe wide. Policies can be organised utilising the link below - use their comprehensive option. Premiums are very competitive considering the cover included. Their multi-trip option is for 15 months for the price of 12.
We sampled a multi-trip option including FCO cover for a single person at £44 and the same policy for a family of three for £110. Your premium can be further reduced if you get to the payment stage on your application but don’t pay. Wait on their automated follow up email after a couple of days. Wait again for their second follow up which offers a 15% discount across all premiums.
Airlines and driving
If an airline cancels your flight you are always entitled to an alternative flight or a full refund. They may also offer you vouchers for another flight and will generally waiver all fees in the short term. This applies if only one leg of your flight is cancelled – for example Easyjet cancel the outbound leg of a flight to Munich, but still run the return then you are still entitled to a refund of the whole flight cost. Airlines are struggling, like many in the sector, so if you are able to change flights or accept a voucher then it really does help them.
There remain a number of daily flights from the UK and Ireland arriving at our usual Staffler gateways – Munich, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Memmigen. Prices are very competitive. You can see the relevant airlines and destinations on our Travel page here.
If you are aiming to drive to the Staffler then you are currently considered ‘in transit’ en route and are therefore not governed by Covid related border issues. Driving is a great option, especially utilising Eurotunnel as you can pretty much remain in a family or group bubble throughout the journey.
For the duration of the current UK lockdown – through till the beginning of December, international travel from the UK is prohibited. There are also border quarantine restrictions in place for a similar duration in both Germany and Austria.
Current Covid regulations vary from country to country but fundamentally we support all legislation that mandates the use of face masks on all public transport, in airports and on flights. We ask you to bring your own reusable face coverings though we do have a substantial supply of single use masks in resort and on our transfer buses. Facemasks are also mandatory on our airport to Staffler minibus transfers. We also have a plentiful supply of hand gel in our buses and we urge all guests to wash hands regularly throughout their journey to and from the hotel and to maintain social distancing whenever possible.
All Staffler staff will have Covid specific hygiene training and any applicable PPE equipment as Austrian legislation may require.
At the Staffler
We embrace fully all current and future Covid related Austrian legislation regarding hotels, catering and bars and will keep guests regularly updated of the applicable rules and regulations. One important measure we embrace is the current, weekly Covid testing of all staff with results within a few hours from the Austrian authorities.
In resort and on the slopes
Austrian summer glacier skiing continued all summer long. All other ski resorts operated their lifts, pay desks, toilets and other elements of their infrastructure. Mountain restaurants were open and operational - all again, without any major Covid related issues. Covid rules and regulations have been drawn up for all winter ski resorts and have been embraced by lift companies, ski schools, mountain restaurants and a myriad of other suppliers across the Tyrol. The measures introduced are basically a continuation of their successful summer model.
Masks are compulsory in shops and open markets and while walking around bars and restaurants. A maximum of ten people can sit together in a restaurant, a maximum of 50 people at an enclosed indoor event and 100 people at an outside gathering.
