THE AUSTRIAN TYROL is one of the worlds greatest ski paradises. The restaurants and bars are as much a part of the experience as the slopes and that's saying something considering there are at least 3900km of piste, 1700 lifts and some of the best resorts anywhere - such as Mayerhofen, Kitzbuhel and St Anton. As well as offering excellent skiing for beginners and intermediates, families and children Niederau is close to many of the Tyrol's best resorts.
BEGINNERS – Wildschonau combined lift pass recommended
Renowned as one of Austria’s best resorts for beginners. The extensive nursery slopes are in and close to the village centre while the blue runs on the upper slopes are wide and gentle.
INTERMEDIATES – Wildschonau combined lift pass recommended
Good intermediate skiing on a number of blue and red slopes at the top of the gondola and a long red back down to the village. Auffach close by, and utilising the same lift pass offers an extensive range of challenging slopes. Best of all is the long blue and red decent from the top of the Schatzberg gondola to the village.
ADVANCED – Kitzbuhler Alpen lift pass recommended
By combining the more challenging red and black runs above Niederau and in Auffach the accomplished skier can enjoy two or possibly three days of fantastic skiing. Less than ten minutes from Niederau lies Hopfgarten and access to the famous Ski Welt – the largest linked ski circuit in the world!
Less than 30 minutes from Niederau by car is the wonderful resort of Alpbach which offers a great days skiing, some of the highest runs in the area and lots of decents through the trees. About the same distance away is the Ziller Valley with access to Gerlos from Zell am Ziller and the famous resort of Mayerhofen a little further along.
ADDITIONAL OPTIONS FOR THE ADVANCED SKIER is the Ziller Valley and the fantastic resorts of Mayerhofen, Zell am Ziller and Gerlos and Hoch Zillertal and Fungen. Less than an hour by car from Niederau all resorts offer fantastic and varied skiing around 2000 meters and above. Mayerhofen continues to expand and now offers not only the steepest run in Austria - the Harikari but a full day ski safari that now includes the recently opened ski area above Lanersbach. The Ahorn ski area is accessed by Austria's biggest cable car, the Vans Penken Park is one of the Tyrol's best board parks and the White Lounge, a mountaintop iglo village with hip music, attracts clubbers. Zell am Ziller boasts a high mountain connection to Gerlos and on to Konigsleiten - you'll find it difficult to get from one end of the sytem to the other and back again in a day!
The recently much improved and now connected Hochfungen/Hochzillertal offers some fantastic skiing, with good cruising for all levels and the stylish Kristallhutte for lunch. This modern mountain hut is stylish spot with large sun decks, fur covered sunloungers and fantastic views.
We offer ski awayday's to all the above resorts throughout the season from the Staffler.
